A reliable source came forward with these facts:
The speed limit on 295 changes seven times from the Brunswick on ramp to Tukey’s Bridge. From 45 to 55 to 65 to 55 to 65 to 50, none of which has any impact on people in a rush to get to work, who consistently drive 70 to 80 through all speed limits listed.
Occasionally, a trooper will be seen on the median strip with his blue lights on, as if to say, “come on people slow down…please!” Sometimes they sit in total darkness at 4:30 am trying to catch the lone driver pulling away from the herd in the 90 to 100 mph range. It’s rare to see a trooper (read never) to pull out and try to stop ten cars almost bumper to bumper, flying around the bridge construction zone marked LIMIT 45 at the normal speed in the 70 to 80 range, Why does it take the D.O.T. months if not years to build an over pass bridge when CHIBRO can build a 4 lane replacement segment at Veranda St,, cut the old section out, and roll the new completed section into place in a few hours???
We recommend a more efficient way to collect more money from the drivers. Every year pick every ninth driver and send him the speeding fee ticket for $180. It will change every year and we can stop wasting time and money in traffic court. Give the driver 12 months to pay the $180 at the rate of $15 per month. The current speed limits are a farce no one obeys. We see people driving 60 mph on Forest Ave. in Portland.
IF NO ONE OBEYS A SPEED LIMIT, WHY HAVE ONE?
